WORSHIP ART & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE March 2007 Meeting Summary Commission was called to order at 6:30pm with opening prayer
offered by Carol Ryan, followed by review of the January 2007 meeting
minutes. Lenten Liturgies:
This year’s Lenten liturgies contain a
straightforward and solemn theme….reminding us that as sinners we must
repent as well as rejoice in the fact that Christ died on the Cross for
us, so that we can be saved. Commission members discussed the importance
of the music-how it is an important form of prayer-as well as the
importance that regardless of our singing abilities, we should actively
participate in singing. Holy Week: Plans for Holy Week are underway, with training of
the Acolytes, Crucifers, and Thurifers to begin on Tuesday, March
6th. With the fact that spring break is during Holy Week, we
have many liturgical ministries, i.e. Greeters, Ushers, Crucifers, etc..
open and available. It is anticipated that the 5:00pm Saturday and 9:00am
Palm Sunday Masses will not include a procession, but instead, will be
held at the 11:00am Palm Sunday Mass. Ministry Prep Program:
Discussion was held regarding
Acolyte (Altar Server) training. Commission members agreed that a more
structured program involving supplementary education as a reinforcement to
the already skills training segment should be incorporated. Members also
agreed that eligible participants should begin at the 4th grade
level. Discussion also ensued regarding the need toward maintaining the
interest and willingness to move on toward becoming a Crucifer.
Lector Workshop: Commission members discussed future Lector training
programs for both new and current Lectors, with emphasis on techniques for
proclaiming the word of God. May Parish Mission:
A brief discussion ensued regarding the
upcoming May Parish Mission. The committee has been diligently planning
for this event. Mailings containing further details have been sent out.
Please see the bulletin or contact the parish office for further
details. Open Discussion: Assignments for preparation for Holy Week Masses was
reviewed by Commission Members. Adjournment: Meeting adjourned at 8:30pm. The next meeting of the Worship, Art & Environment Commission is scheduled for Monday, May 14 at 6:30pm. All are welcome to attend.

May Parish Mission: Committee members for our May Parish Mission are diligently working on plans for this year’s event which will be held on May 6th thru May 11th. Open Discussion: Commission members discussed the incorporation of adult Acolytes as a supplement to our current Altar Servers. Members agreed that this would be of great benefit, especially for use at funerals, large Masses, etc.. Fr. Joe indicated that there are approximately 8 to 9 parishioners interested in attending this year’s Cursillo. Adjournment: The next meeting of the Worship, Art & Environment Commission will be held on Monday, February 5th at 6:30pm. All are welcome to attend. March, 2006 Meeting Summary The March meeting of the Worship, Art & Environment Commission convened at 6:30pm with prayer followed by review and approval of the February meeting minutes. Holy Week: Commission members reviewed the analysis outlining last year’s holy week activities…..what appeared to work well, and what did not. A sub-committee was also formed in order to discuss various task needed to be accomplished for holy week of this year. Commission members agreed that even though no adults will be baptized, the baptismal font should be open. Open Forum: No discussion was held regarding any other topics. Concluding Business: The next meeting of the Worship, Art & Environment Commission will be held on Monday May 1st. A segment in our agenda will consist of plans for celebrating the anniversary of our church. All are welcome to attend. February, 2006 Meeting Summary The February meeting of the Worship, Art, and Environment Commission convened at 6:30pm with opening prayer offered by Carol Ryan, followed by review of the January 2, 2006 meeting minutes. Our educational segment “The Church is the Gathering of God’s People” was presented by Denise Sinke. The message portrayed is that all of us become members of faith through baptism…..and that Christ is the head of the Church, and the fact that he has no physical body means that we are the body of Christ in everything that we do. Because of this, our bodies are temples of God, and we must use them for him. Questions for reflection: 1) Christ has no body but yours…..how do we use our bodies for Christ? 2) Because our body is a temple of Christ…do we make ourselves presentable to the Holy Spirit? Lenten Season: Ash Wednesday is March 1st, marking the beginning of Lent. Marge Crawford has volunteered to coordinate the “Soup Suppers” held on each Friday during Lent following the stations of the cross. The Worship, Art, and Environment Commission will host the first soup supper to be held on Friday, March 3rd. Brief discussion was held regarding the placement of symbols/items at the foot of the wooden cross, near the baptismal font. Commission members agree to recommend no change in this practice. Discussion ensued regarding the enhancement of the church for the Lenten season. Anyone interested in helping is invited to be at the church on Tuesday, February 28th beginning at 10:00am. Your help will greatly be appreciated. Visioning Process: Commission members provided input regarding needs of the church. Each commission and committee has been assigned to provide input, which will then be forwarded to the Building Oversight Committee. Our next meeting will be held on Monday, March 6th, beginning at 6:30pm in the St. Anne’s room. All are welcome to attend. Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm. January 2006 Meeting Summary The January meeting of the Worship, Art & Environment Commission convened at 6:30pm with Opening prayer by Debra Snyder, followed by review and approval of the December 5th meeting minutes. Discussion ensued regarding Advent, Christmas Liturgies, Church enhancement, and Penance Service. Fr. Joe indicated that approximately 75 people attending this service. The 5:00pm Christmas Eve Mass was filled to capacity with standing room only. Commission members agreed that a minimum of 5 ushers are needed, and must be in position to be easily seen by attending parishioners. Dave Slifka also indicated that the number of Emergency Medical Personnel will also be increased to accommodate any medical needs, and that these personnel will be in uniform. Fr. Joe indicated that at next year’s Christmas Eve Mass, he would like the Extraordinary Ministers of Communion to distribute communion near the balcony as well as in their usual positions in the front of the Church. Midnight Mass was also well attended, however, there was not enough Extraordinary Ministers of Communion. Church Enhancements: Discussion was held regarding the enhancement of the Church for the Christmas season. As a result of Christmas 2006 falling on a Monday, the Church will not be available to decorate until after the 11:00am Mass. Because of the limited time in which to decorate, Fr. Joe and Commission members felt that a n undemanding décor be implemented. Fr. Joe indicated the need to show more reverence toward the Creche. Commission members discussed possible locations in which to place the Creche so that it would be more visible. Decorations in the Church will be taken down on Saturday, January 14th at 10:00am. Volunteers are needed, and a light lunch will be provided. Liturgical Ministries: Commission members discussed the need for better education for volunteers, while also stressing the spiritual aspect of these ministries. Mandated training should be conducted in our parish, and that this could be better accomplished in small groups with hands-on training, (ex: Purification of sacred vessels). Commission members also agreed that attendance, finding subs, as well as our prayer life must also be stressed as a part of this training. We must do this as a service to God. As a result, beginning in February, all those serving at each Mass will meet with Fr. Joe 15 minutes prior to the start of the Mass. This will be a time of prayer and reflection. Prayer Leader for February 6th meeting: Carol Ryan Educational Segment: Denise Sinke
